What I’m Letting Go of in This Season of Life
A quiet rebellion: choosing myself, my pace, and my peace.
You know I’ve heard a lot of people say they LOVE being in their 40’s.
It always has seemed like this age of rebellion.
An age of stepping into oneself.
An age of giving a big ol’ middle finger to expectations or judgement.
and…I freaking love it.
you see I believe social media has allowed for this beautiful mingling of generations that I don’t think would have really allowed for us to gather this insight on such a deep level.
We get to follow these peoples lives, learn from their life lessons and mistakes.
and as toxic as social media can be - there really is a lot of beauty to it as well.
But, I’ve been feeling this lately that us millenials in our 30’s are arriving at that rebellion stage earlier. and maybe this whole world of social media exposure is playing a big role in that.
I’ve also been in a big reflecting season of my life.
Thinking about what really matters, what I want, what I don’t want…what i’m not willing to negotiate on anymore.
And becoming more clear on the things I don’t want, and choosing things that are non-negotiable in my life has meant embracing ‘letting go’ and closing chapters that are no longer serving me.
and for me there is a lot i’m choosing to let go of this year but the following have been some of the most impactful:
Things I’m Letting Go of in This Season of Life:
Waiting for Someone Else to Fix My Life – Taking full responsibility instead of hoping for an outside rescue.
Trying to Fast-Forward to the Next Chapter – Trusting the timing of my life instead of rushing through the present.
Putting My Happiness on Hold – Choosing joy now, instead of waiting for the hard season to pass.
Over-Explaining My Choices – Making decisions that feel right for me without needing permission or validation.
Holding Onto What No Longer Fits – Letting go of old habits, relationships, or identities that keep me stuck.
i’m curious — did any of these resonate with you? (Vote in the poll below or drop me a comment and let me know which one!) PS. this is my first time adding a poll in one of my post, i’m still trying to decide if I like it.
I also recently dropped a youtube video that dives a bit more into this and things i am no longer apologizing for in my 30’s — so if this topic resonates, hop on over to my Youtube Channel and check it out after you finish this post.
And while we are ALL in different seasons of our lives, I do believe there is always space to reflect on what you could be letting go of in your current season to help you create more of the life you crave for yourself.
I would love to know something you want to or currently are working on letting go of in your life? because we are all going through this human experience for the first time, there is no rule book and I believe the more we share the realness of being human, the more we can collectively help more people step into themselves.
until next time,
xo J
Your observation about generations mingling in a different way due to social media is really interesting! From a 30s rebelling millennial - wishing you luck and happiness as you make these changes!
Love this post! I just started a substack and it simply is just to be myself, to truly focus on my favorites. Your post about letting go resonates. Thank you.
